Feel Good Friday: Some Indian Fashion Accounts You NEED to See

One of my favourite Friday activities is to browse Indian fashion accounts for the latest style trends in saris, lenghas, suits, shararas, ghararas, tikkas, jhumkis, bangles, and more. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, do not fear! Whether you’re totally new to the world of Indian fashion, or a seasoned stressed-about-your-closet-overflowing-with-both-Indian-and-Western-fashion brown girl like myself, I’m here to share some of my favourite and most-browsed Instagram accounts with you. I’ve categorized them (sort-of), so you can glimpse Indian fashion through three different lenses on this fine, fine Friday.

I wish you fun and luck getting lost down the beautiful, elaborate, historically-rich rabbit hole that is Indian fashion!

If you want to know Indian fashion’s leading designers, coming at you straight from India, with gorgeous but outrageously-priced, cutting-edge pieces, check out...

… the Instagram accounts of three of India’s most famous fashion designers: @sabyasachiofficial (he actually just partnered with Christian Louboutin… it’s that level), @ritukumarhq, or @manishmalhotraworld

If you find that window-shopping unaffordable but stunningly beautiful pieces is your Instagram browsing vibe, you can see more designers here: The 10 Indian Fashion Designers You Should Know.

If you’re interested in contemporary Indian fashion created by and for younger Indo-Canadians, check out…

...some famous, industry-leading brands who are shaping the future of Indian fashion, especially in Toronto and surrounding areas: @manikjassal, @jangiiro (which, fun fact, is co-founded by Gurkiran Kaur, politician Jagmeet Singh’s wife), @banglez_jewelry (yup, just jewelry), and @rjs_company (more jewelry!).

I’d be lying if I said these brands were super affordable, but they are fresh, blooming, and beautifully-curated. I often look to them for inspiration as I shop for Indian clothes that are, ah-em, regularly priced. Speaking of…

If all of this browsing has inspired you to actually go shopping for your own Indian clothes, check out…

...two of my favourite Indian clothing boutiques in the GTA, @aekamcollections and @mahodayasherwani. Both are family-owned, community-oriented businesses who I have had the pleasure of collaborating with in the past. Aekam Collections carries clothing, jewelry, and accessories for all, and Mahodaya Sherwani specializes in men’s fashion.

If you’re all about that online shopping life, you can also check out @lashkaraa, an Indian fashion retailer that ships internationally.

Happy Friday, happy browsing… and maybe even happy shopping!

The idea of Feel Good Fridays started because we believe the simple things that bring a smile to our face are some of the best things. Smiling and laughing have been proven to reduce stress in our lives! When we smile or laugh it releases neurotransmitters in our brain called endorphins, which are in charge of making us happy and helping to relieve stress.
