Feel Good Friday: Let There Be Trees on Earth
The environment is a big source of concern for most people, the earth is being exploited at a rapid rate. People, governments and corporations around the world are trying to change the way they do things in order to reduce emissions. The solutions we rely on are often expensive and complicated, this is especially true for governments and corporations. Interestingly a solution we think is too simple can have a huge impact, that solution is planting trees (if you want to learn more click here). Because of this I wanted to highlight some countries who are taking action and getting roots in the ground!
In July of this year, the country planted 350 million trees in twelve hours! With a population of 105 million people that's approximately three trees per person and they aren't stopping there! Eventually their goal is to plant four billion trees.
India has also made some great strides in this area! In August they planted 220 million trees, one tree for each person in the state of Uttar Pradesh, which happens to be the most populated state in the country. Also, back in 2016, 50 million trees were planted in one day in the same region. Go India! To learn more check out CBS News and National Geographic.
Pakistan is making great strides towards reforestation, starting in 2013 when they planted 847,275 trees in one day (they actually hold a world record for most trees planted in one day). They're continuing this work by pledging to plant ten billion trees over the next five years to tackle climate change. You can learn more about their ten billion tree goal.
It's amazing to see all of these countries taking action! In addition to these tree planting initiatives the earth is also regenerating! Research has shown that more people are living in urban areas, as a result the rural areas are slowly becoming reforested due to the lack of human activity.
Obviously we still have a ways to go, more trees need to be planted. If you want to take action consider planting a tree in your yard, donating money or volunteering with an organization like ReForest London or writing a letter to your elected officials and urge them to do more!
The idea of Feel Good Fridays started because we believe the simple things that bring a smile to our face, are some of the best things. Smiling and laughing has been proven to reduce stress in our lives! When we smile or laugh it releases neurotransmitters in our brain called endorphins, which are in charge of making us happy and helping to relieve stress.
